DIGITALIANO - Using Videogames to teach Italian Lit.

Dr. Brandon Essary is an Italian Professor at Elon University. Dr. Essary has began using gameplay of the 2010 video game Dante's Inferno as a tool to teach students about Italian Literature.

In order to exhibit the educational value of video games, he wanted to provide commentary over gameplay that draws parallels between Italian literature and an interactive medium.

His platform of choice was YouTube, so I began sketching for a Thumbnail/Watermark, a YouTube Channel Header and a Intro motion graphic.

The main source of Dr. Essary's aesthetic inspiration came from the ancient Greece. At his request, I took digitized nodes and applied them to a Greek coin canvas in order conceptualize the idea of 'Interactive Ancient Literature'.
The coin logo serves as the primary thumbnail for the YouTube channel and the watermark for the channels.
Inspired by the origin Creation Image by Michelangelo, I added circuitry and a video game controller to provide a visualization for gamification.

"Using the resources already provided us [the multibillion dollar video game industry] in order to further foreign language and literature education."
